Today was the day. Caroline had her picture all ready to give to Mr. Harrison. She hid it behind her back and shuffled to his desk. He was correcting their spelling tests. His smile was gentle and he looked very pleased with how everyone did. The paper in Caroline's hands was shaking. Mr. Harrison checked off one last word and then turned to her.
"Hmm, Caroline?" was his usual response. Her cheeks became rosy. She couldn't look at him, so her eyes went to a different part of the room.
